THE ULTIMATE
In my recent blog posts, I have discussed many ways that humans are polluting this planet and contributing to climate change. However, humans aren't the only culprite. For a long time volcanoes have contributed to climate change. When volcanoes erupt, they shoot off huge amounts of gases into our atmosphere. Some of these gases warm and cool our planet. For example, in 1991 Mount Pinatubo, a volcanoe in the Phillipines, erupted and shot off sun blocking particles into the stratosphere that cooled the earth for the following couple years. On the other side, many under-water and land volcanoes release CO2, a greenhouse gas, which can warm the earth for an extended period of time. In conclusion, volcanoes are a contributor to climate change, however, volcanoes make up only a small fraction of the pollution on earth.
